Small Regulator case drawing, ca 1790
Clock case drawing with dimensions, part of framed assembly of 4 pc. Wooden frame, matted. Small paper envelope with side detached, letter under, larger plan mounted to the right. Three pieces pertain to a letter written to Aaron Willard by Joseph Leland, concerning a matter of a house frame being built for Aaron Willard.
Dimensions of Small Regulator case. Drawing of a case with numbers and noted. Signed S. H. & D. This could refer to Stephenson Howard & Davis of Boston, clockmakers who had been making balances and clocks in Hingham until 1847. They also advertised Astronomical clocks and regulators. It is unknown how this drawing related to the Aaron Willard correspondence but proves that American clockmakers were interested in each others’ work and watched any innovations closely.
