D. Goddard, Swiss style Pocket Watch, Worcester, ca. 1860
White enamel dial with large thin Roman numerals for hour chapters; no inscription; moon hour hand (appropriate), seconds hand with solid moon on tail (appropriate), missing minute hand.
18-size movement; gilt plates; uncompensated balance; cylinder escapement with steel escape wheel; balance cock with solid foot and table; flat, blued balance spring; brass time train; four jewels; going barrel; plain regulator located on cock; wind and set from back; blued screws.
Open-faced case with hinged covers; probably "Argent 0.800" (i.e. 80% silver); brass cuvette, plain polish with light engraving on band; cuvette inscribed: "D. Goddard, Worcester, Cylinder Escapement, Four Holes Jewelled"; inside back cover inscribed "V.C."; casemaker unknown.
This pocket watch is a typical mid-19th century Swiss import of medium grade; retailed by Daniel Goddard.
