The Willard House & Clock Museum is a historic place with festive roots, right in the heart of Massachusetts. Come visit us for a guided tour of our museum.

Finials

Find them on chairs, find them on secretaries, find them on CLOCKS, finials! Wooden or brass they are beautiful, and here are some from the tops of our clocks! Purely meant for decoration, they were particularly popular in the 18th and 19th centuries.

Most of the clock finials in Willard House fall into three types: acorn (which looks bit like an egg), eagle, and ball and spire. During the Federal period, eagles came into style as a symbol of our country. Some of the others shown here include urn, flame and urn, and the Prince of Wales Feathers.
