Simon Willard (1753-1848), Roxbury Parish Clock, Massachusetts, 1805
Large Gallery Clock with gilded pine case and carved eagle; pine backboard; painted mahogany dial with 4 3/16" Roman numerals and Arabic minute numerals, closed minute track and a circle inside the numerals.
The dial is mounted to the case by four brass machine screws that protrude from the case and the dial is held in place with knurled brass nuts. The hands are wood, open loop barbed style.
Eight-day movement with stepped train drop-off strike.
Cast brass trapezoidal plates and brass wheels, steel pinons, recoil escapement. Movement i mounted to the case with three fillister head screws. The lower case or pendulum box with petal carved ovals on the sides, contains a painted glass contains a geometric tablet with a name "S. Willard’s Patent.".
The wood eagle on this clock was carved by John Doggett and is enlarge version. The base is ornate carved guiled bracket. Accompanied by the bill of sale.
